Counselling is a talking therapy that involves a trained therapist listening to you and helping you find ways to deal with emotional issues or helping you move forward in your life to achieve your goals and aspirations. Sometimes people seek counselling, just to talk to someone and off load so that they feel lighter and less stressed.
Counselling can help you cope with a variety of life challenges:
Counselling can help you cope with a variety of life challenges:
- wanting to build confidence and self-esteem
- support with reaching goals and having a positive mindset
- a mental health condition, such as depression and anxiety
- an upsetting physical health condition, such as infertility
- a difficult life event, such as a bereavement, a relationship breakdown or work-related stress
- difficult emotions – for example, low self-esteem or anger
- wanting to explore self and find out who you are
Counselling can help you gain a better understanding of your feelings and thought processes, and find your own solutions to problems without getting advice in a supportive, confidential and encouraging environment. It can take a number of sessions before you start to see progress, but you should gradually start to feel better with the help and support.
Receiving counselling through an alternative route could be more appropriate for you. This may be due to work commitments such as working long hours or away from home, you may live in a rural area, have a disability, you would just rather access support from the comfort of your home or feel that an online avenue is more flexible and easier to manage.

Email
Counselling via email enables both parties - the counsellor and the client - time to reflect and process. It gives you the opportunity to talk and respond when you feel the time is right for you. When forming a contract with your counsellor, a mutually agreed time for sessions will be set. This would normally be one email per week or a series of responses within a set time frame, allowing time for reflection. This is arranged to suit your needs.
